The practice of Wassies balancing apples on their heads originates from a dastardly sport played by the Outcasts of Wassietopia.
Called 'apple-shot', participating Outcasts position the captive Wassies in a marked field, balance an apple on their heads and take turns trying to hit the apple from distance with a wide variety of weapons without hitting the Wassie itself. When the apple is successfully knocked off the Wassie, the distance the apple has moved is calculated. The Outcast then switches to a blunt force weapon and swings at the Wassie with the objective of propelling the Wassie as far as possible down the field. The apple distance and the Wassie distance is then tabulated to calculate a final score, and the Outcast with the final score is declared the winner.
Despite these dark origins, certain clueless Wassies who have left Wassietopia continue balancing apples on their heads as an aesthetic choice, often even using jelly as an adhesive to ensure that the apple stays on.
